Della Santa built LeMond Plymouth/Reebok Team Bike

Vintage Bicycle Werkes is proud to offer this stunning Della Santa built LeMond Plymouth/Reebok team bike. Handcrafted by legendary frame builder Rolland Della Santa, this masterpiece is complemented by a full Campagnolo Record Carbon gruppo.

Della Santa began building frames in Reno, Nevada in 1970. His work was inspired by his Italian roots and the classic frame builders of the Old Country. He used primarily Columbus tubing and hand filed Cinelli lugs that he stamped with his initials DS. Every frame was custom made and he is noted for being the first sponsor and frame builder for Greg LeMond. Della Santa would go on to build frames for LeMond’s own brand starting in 1986 as well as team bikes for the super star through his time at Team Z. 

Della Santa, himself an accomplished racer also built frames for other teams including Plymouth/Reebok, a US based team of the late 80’s as seen here. He only worked in steel and his frames are known for a smooth, responsive ride.

This LeMond was an original team frame that was restored by Ti-Cycles in Portland, Oregon. The restoration consisted of stripping the frame and replacing the top tube which had seen its fair share of wear. A replica Della Santa fork was also made by the folks at Ti-Cycles with a threadless headtube for use with a more modern A-headset-type headset and stem. A full repaint was performed by Black Magic also of Portland, OR to replicate the colors and livery of the original team. Built as a resto-mod, it features a full Campagnolo Record 10speed Carbon gruppo and HED Ardennes wheels that are shod with Vittoria Open Corsa 28mm tires. The cockpit features a Ritchey WCS stem and LeMond-correct Scott Drop-in handlebars. A Fizik Arione CX saddle and Chorus Carbon seat post finish the build.   

The frameset is in like-new condition with very little wear since the restoration. 

The retro-mod nature of this build results in the perfect combination of tradition and usable technology.
